  • Poll Results: Have You Ever Worked Retail?

Last weekend, we asked you if you had ever worked in retail before, 29 of you responded, and the results are in:

83% of you have worked in a store, with just 5 people saying they have not.

As someone who has never gotten the chance to have a retail job before, this seems kind of surprising, but then again, retail jobs are very popular places to work for teenagers and people in their early twenties. I'm also sure that there are more people who haven't worked in retail that just didn't speak up.

Here are some great stories from commenters from their retail experiences:

From katiwitz@xanga: Once, an entire 20 pound bag of bird seed was dumped over an entire checkout lane. We had shovels to clean it up.

From halloweentreat: After working for over twenty years in private doctors' offices as a technician, I've spent the last ten years in retail providers as an optician. Actually the last seven years have been spent in wholesale (as apposed to retail) at Costco. I generally love working with people although it sometimes seems some "members" feel an entitlement to treat employees like Bob Barker. "Let's make a Deal!" They are already getting the best price in the area, yes I will change the nose pads and give you a hard case, no I will not kiss your feet!

Darla@Lovelyish works at Old Navy: I have seen a bit of everything from customers: changing in the middle of the store (taking off a shirt standing in only their bra)... a child once got his hand stuck in a gumball machine filled with bouncy balls...

Thanks for taking part in the first Dollarish Poll! We'll have another question for you on Sunday.
